Keep a video call in view with picture in picture
A small floating window keeps your Connect call on screen while you work in another tab or app.
Picture in picture puts your call in a small window that stays on top of everything else. You can keep watching and stay in control of the call while you work somewhere else.
Open it
The window opens by itself when you switch to another tab during a call. It closes again when you come back to the call.
To open it yourself, click Picture in picture in the call's control bar. In a narrow browser window, you find it under More options. A window you opened yourself stays open until you close it.
Browsers don't let a website open this window when you switch to another app. Open it yourself before you switch.
What the window shows
- Someone is sharing their screen: their screen fills the window, with the person talking in a small tile.
- You pinned someone: the people you pinned.
- Otherwise: up to four people. Whoever is talking always gets a place.
Your own camera and your own screen share stay out of the window, so you can see the people you're talking to.
What you can do in the window
- Turn your microphone and camera on or off
- Raise your hand
- Stop sharing your screen
- Go back to the call
- Leave the call
Chat messages appear in the window, and clicking one opens the chat in your call. If you host the call, you can also let people in from the waiting room. Requests that need your answer, such as agreeing to a recording, show up there too.
If you share your entire screen, the window is part of what others see. Share a single tab or window to keep it private.
Choose when it opens
- In a call, open Settings.
- Find Automatic picture in picture.
- Choose Tab switch or screen share, Only on tab switch or Never.
Your choice is saved in this browser.
Browser support
| Browser | What works |
|---|---|
| Chrome, Edge | Everything on this page |
| Firefox | Open it yourself, with the full window |
| Safari | Open it yourself. Shows one video, with no controls |
Phones are not supported. Automatic opening needs your microphone or camera to be in use, so it doesn't happen for webinar attendees.
