Create and manage WhatsApp templates

Create WhatsApp templates with a live preview, check their review status at Meta, fix rejected templates and delete old ones.

Updated on October 23, 2026

Once a contact has not written to you for 24 hours, WhatsApp only delivers templates that Meta approved in advance. That covers reminders from workflows, birthday greetings and any message that starts a conversation again. In meetergo you create and manage these templates in one place.

Find them under Conversations → Channels → WhatsApp → WhatsApp templates. In the workflow step Send WhatsApp to attendees, the Create Message Template link takes you there directly.

Create a template

  1. Click New template.
  2. Pick an example or start blank. For brokers and service businesses there are ready texts for Appointment reminder, Birthday greeting, Review request, Request a document and Arrange a call back.
  3. Enter a Name. It uses lowercase letters, numbers and underscores and only you see it.
  4. Choose the Category:
    • Utility: updates on an existing appointment or request. Cheaper.
    • Marketing: greetings, offers, reviews. Costs more and needs the contact's opt-in.
  5. Optional: a Header as text or image. For an image, enter a public link to a JPG or PNG up to 5 MB. It is sent with every message.
  6. Write the Message. Insert variable adds placeholders such as first name, date or link. Each variable needs an example value that Meta sees during review.
  7. Optional: a Footer and Buttons (quick reply, link, call).
  8. Click Submit to Meta.

On the right you see how the message looks on a phone. meetergo checks Meta's rules before submitting, such as lengths, variables numbered in order, and that the message does not start or end with a variable.

Statuses

StatusMeaning
In reviewMeta is reviewing the template. Usually minutes, rarely up to 24 hours.
ApprovedThe template can be used in workflows and the inbox.
RejectedMeta rejected it. The reason is shown under the name.
PausedMeta stopped or disabled it because of poor feedback.

The list refreshes every 30 seconds while a template is in review. The arrow button at the top right fetches the status right away. The filters at the top show only templates with one status. Next to the status, meetergo shows Meta's quality rating once there is one.

Fix a rejected template

Click Fix (on a phone: ⋯ → Edit) on a rejected template, change the text and click Submit changes. Common reasons:

  • Category does not fit the text: promotional texts belong in Marketing.
  • Invalid format: often variables without text around them, or missing example values.

Edit or duplicate a template

Change approved templates with ⋯ → Edit. Meta allows this only a few times a month and reviews the template again afterwards. The category stays the same. If Meta refuses the change, or the template is in review, use ⋯ → Duplicate as new template. meetergo copies the content under a new name.

Delete a template

Admins delete a template with ⋯ → Delete.
