Switch from Superchat or Another WhatsApp Provider to meetergo
Move your WhatsApp API number from Superchat, 360dialog or another provider to meetergo and keep the number. Fixes 'Valid payment method missing', a greyed out 'Add payment method' button, and sending that fails while receiving still works because of the old provider's shared credit line.
You used WhatsApp through a provider like Superchat, 360dialog or Trengo and now want the same number in meetergo. The move takes a few minutes and you keep your number. Two things go wrong most often: the wrong connect button, and the old provider's credit line. This guide avoids both.
Which guide is yours?
| Your situation | Guide |
|---|---|
| You only ever used the number inside the provider's inbox. It does not run in the WhatsApp Business App on a phone | This article |
| The number runs in the WhatsApp Business App on your phone | Use WhatsApp Business App and API Simultaneously |
Before you start
- You are an admin of the Meta business portfolio that owns the number
- Someone can answer the number, or read its SMS, during the move
- You have a credit card for Meta's message fees
- Your provider contract can still be running. Do not delete anything at the old provider first
Landline numbers cannot receive SMS. Choose Call when Meta asks how to send the code. The call is automated and reads out a 6-digit code, so it must reach a person directly. A greeting or phone menu in front of the line blocks it.
Step by step
- Turn off two-step verification for the number. Open business.facebook.com → WhatsApp Manager → Phone numbers → your number → Two-step verification → turn off. Meta confirms by email. If you cannot open the number there, the account belongs to your provider. Ask their support to turn off two-step verification for a provider switch.
- In meetergo, open Integrations & Apps → WhatsApp Business → Connect. If the old account is already connected there, disconnect it first.
- Click Set up a new number for the API. Do not use Connect existing WhatsApp Business App, that flow is only for numbers running in the app.
- In the Meta popup, pick your business portfolio. For the WhatsApp Business Account, create a new one. Do not select the account your old provider used.
- Enter your existing number. Meta recognises it and moves it into the new account.
- Confirm the number by SMS or call and finish the popup.
- meetergo registers the number and shows a 6-digit PIN. Save it.
- Add your card to the new account: Meta Business Manager → Billing & payments → Payment methods → WhatsApp accounts → your new account → Add payment method.
- Send a test reply from the WhatsApp inbox in meetergo.
Want to be sure before moving the number? Create the new WhatsApp Business Account first and add your card to it. If Meta accepts the card, the path is clear.
After the move, check Templates in the WhatsApp settings. Submit any template that is missing again.
Why a new WhatsApp Business Account?
Providers pay Meta's message fees through their own credit line, which they share with your WhatsApp Business Account. That line stays attached when you leave, and it causes a very specific failure:
- Meta shows Valid payment method missing, even though your card is on file
- Add payment method is greyed out
- Incoming messages still arrive, because receiving is free. Sending fails
As long as a provider's credit line is attached, Meta does not allow your own payment method on that account. You cannot remove the line yourself, only the provider can. And even after they do, a second line from their technical partner often remains, shown as Allocated from: 360Dialog or similar.
A new WhatsApp Business Account has no credit line. Your card works there straight away, which is why step 4 matters.
You can see the lines in Meta Business Manager → Billing & payments → WhatsApp accounts → your account. meetergo cannot change them, they belong to the provider.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Receiving works, sending fails. Meta shows Valid payment method missing | The old provider's credit line is still attached to the account | Move the number into a new account with the steps above |
| Add payment method is greyed out | Same cause | Same fix. Asking the provider to remove the line is optional and often not enough |
| The Meta popup only offers the old account and no way to create a new one | You started Connect existing WhatsApp Business App | Close the popup and use Set up a new number for the API |
| An account you created by hand in Business Manager is not found | The number is still bound to the old account | Run the steps above and select the empty account in step 4, or create a new one there |
| Meta refuses to delete the number from the old account | Numbers that sent paid messages in the last 30 days cannot be deleted | You do not need to delete it. The move in step 5 works without it |
| Meta rejects the move in step 5 | Two-step verification is still on | Repeat step 1 and wait for Meta's confirmation email |
| No code arrives | Landline, or a phone menu answers the call | Choose Call and make sure a person picks up directly |
FAQ
Do I keep my number?
Yes. The number, its display name and its quality rating move with it.
Is there downtime?
Only the few minutes of the move itself. There is no waiting period, as long as you move the number directly and do not delete it first.
What happens to the old account?
Nothing. It stays empty in your Meta business portfolio. You can cancel your old provider once the test message in step 9 has arrived.
Can I keep using Superchat in parallel?
Not with the same number. A number is connected to the WhatsApp API through one provider at a time. Use a second number for meetergo if you want to keep both.
