Connecting Apple iCloud Calendar
Linking your Apple iCloud calendar with meetergo prevents scheduling conflicts and keeps all your appointments in perfect sync. When connected, meetergo automatically checks your iCloud calendar before allowing new bookings, ensuring no meetings overlap with your existing commitments. If you use iCloud as your primary calendar and want seamless scheduling without double-bookings, this guide will walk you through the simple connection process.
To connect iCloud, we first need to create an app-specific password in our Apple account.
Step 1: Create an App-Specific Password in iCloud
First, you need to create an app-specific password in your iCloud account. This password is quickly created and will be needed in the next step to connect with meetergo.
To create an app-specific password, please read Apple's support article: https://support.apple.com/en-gb/102654
Here is a summary:
- Go to appleid.apple.com and sign in with your Apple ID
- Navigate to the Sign-In and Security section
- Click on App-Specific Passwords
- Click the + button or Generate an app-specific password
- Enter a label like "meetergo Calendar" to identify this password later
- Click Create
- Copy the generated password immediately (you won't see it again)
- Keep this password handy for the next step
Apple requires app-specific passwords for security when third-party apps access your iCloud data. This password works only for meetergo and doesn't affect your main Apple ID password or other apps.
Step 2: Connect meetergo with iCloud
Now go to your Profile Settings.
Click next to "Apple Calendar" on connect and enter the app-specific password from the previous step.
Step 3: Adjust Settings
The connection is now successfully established, and we can optionally adjust some settings.
In the dropdown under "Calendar Sync," we can select the Apple calendar to synchronize appointments with the calendar.
Additionally, in the iCloud integration settings, we can adjust the primary calendar or activate other calendars.
Important: Calendar Invitation Limitation
Note: Apple iCloud calendar does not support sending calendar invitations directly through the calendar service. This means you may see the warning message "Oops, calendar connection required" on your booking pages even though your calendar is connected.
What this means for you:
- Calendar sync works normally (events are created and conflicts are detected)
- New appointments appear in your iCloud calendar
- Your availability is correctly blocked based on existing events
- However, calendar invitations to attendees cannot be sent via Apple Calendar
The solution: meetergo automatically sends email invitations with calendar attachments (.ics files) to all participants. Your invitees will receive an email with a calendar file they can add to their own calendar. Everything works - just through email instead of direct calendar invitations.
This is a technical limitation of Apple's iCloud calendar service, not a meetergo issue. If you need direct calendar invitations, consider using Google Calendar or Microsoft Outlook instead.
