Connecting ICS/iCal Calendars

Connect any calendar that provides an ICS/iCal link to meetergo for availability checking

Updated on September 16, 2026

Connect any calendar that provides a public ICS/iCal link to meetergo. This includes Proton Calendar, Google Calendar public calendars, university calendars, sports schedules, and many other calendar services.

What is an ICS Calendar?

ICS (iCalendar) is a universal calendar format supported by virtually all calendar applications. When a calendar provides an ICS link, meetergo can read your events to check for scheduling conflicts.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have:

  • A meetergo account
  • A calendar service that provides ICS/iCal sharing links
  • The public ICS URL from your calendar provider

The process varies by calendar provider. Here are some common examples:

Proton Calendar

  1. Go to calendar.proton.me
  2. Click SettingsAll settingsCalendars
  3. Select your calendar and scroll to "Share with anyone"
  4. Click Create link and copy the generated URL

Google Calendar (Public)

  1. Go to calendar.google.com
  2. Click the three dots next to your calendar → Settings and sharing
  3. Under Access permissions, enable Make available to public
  4. Copy the Public address in iCal format

Other Calendar Services

Most calendar services offer ICS export under settings like:

  • "Share calendar"
  • "Calendar sharing"
  • "Export calendar"
  • "Public URL" or "iCal URL"

Look for a URL ending in .ics or containing ical in the path.

Step 2: Connect to meetergo

  1. Navigate to my.meetergo.com/profile
  2. Find the Proton/ICS Calendar integration section
  3. Click Connect
  4. Enter a name for this calendar (e.g., "Work Calendar", "Personal")
  5. Paste your ICS calendar URL
  6. Click Connect Calendar

What Happens Next?

  • meetergo periodically syncs with your ICS calendar
  • Your busy times are automatically blocked when scheduling
  • Event details remain as private as your sharing settings allow

Limitations

ICS calendar connections are read-only:

  • meetergo can see your busy/free times
  • meetergo cannot write bookings directly to the shared calendar. Calendar invitations sent by email can still add bookings in your calendar app.
  • For full two-way sync, consider connecting via CalDAV or native integrations (Google, Outlook)

Troubleshooting

Invalid URL Error

  • Ensure the URL is a valid ICS link (usually ends in .ics)
  • Check that the URL is publicly accessible
  • Links to a private or local network address (for example localhost, 127.0.0.1 or 192.168.x.x) are rejected. The calendar must be reachable from the internet
  • Some services require authentication - use the public sharing option instead

Calendar Not Syncing

If a refresh fails, meetergo keeps previously fetched busy times. If no saved calendar data is available, the affected host's time is temporarily blocked. meetergo checks the calendar again before confirming a booking and prevents the booking if that check fails.

  • Verify the ICS URL is still active
  • Some providers invalidate sharing links after certain periods
  • Try disconnecting and reconnecting with a fresh URL

Events Not Showing

  • Allow a few minutes for the initial sync
  • Check that events exist in the source calendar
  • Verify the calendar link is for the correct calendar

Privacy & Security

When connecting an ICS calendar:

  • Only the information you choose to share is visible
• Use "busy/free" sharing options for maximum privacy
  • meetergo stores the calendar URL securely
