Why was a tentative Outlook event double-booked?

Outlook shows an invitation as Tentative, but meetergo still offered the slot. The Unknown status switch in your Outlook connection is the usual cause.

Updated on September 15, 2026

You accepted an invitation tentatively, or you have not answered it yet. Outlook shows it as Tentative, the Tentative switch in your Outlook connection is on, and meetergo still let someone book that time. This article explains why and how to fix it in one click.

The cause: Outlook reports the event as "Unknown"

meetergo does not read what Outlook displays. It asks Microsoft's calendar API for the status of each event. For some events these two disagree:

  • Unanswered invitations from other organisations (an external sender)
  • Invitations forwarded to you
  • Events created by some third-party tools

Outlook shows them as Tentative, but the API reports the status Unknown. meetergo only blocks the statuses you switched on, and Unknown is off on connections made before September 2026. So the event is ignored and the slot stays bookable.

The fix

  1. Open Integrations & Apps and click the gear icon next to your Outlook connection.
  2. Under Consider me unavailable if outlook.com displays me as, switch on Unknown.
  3. Done. Future availability checks treat these events as busy.

Bookings that were already made on top of such an event are not moved automatically. Reschedule or cancel them from your bookings.

Check that it worked

Open your booking page for the affected day, or use Troubleshoot blocked slots on the meeting type. The event should now appear as a blocking Outlook event. If it still does not, check that the calendar containing the event is ticked under Enabled Calendars in the same dialog. An event in a calendar that is not ticked there never blocks.
