Connecting Nextcloud Talk

Use your Nextcloud Talk instance to create video rooms for your bookings

Updated on June 21, 2026

Nextcloud Talk is the video and chat app built into Nextcloud, the self-hosted, GDPR-friendly collaboration platform. With meetergo you can use Nextcloud Talk as a meeting location, so every booking gets its own Nextcloud Talk room and the guest link is added to the confirmation automatically.

How meetergo connects to Nextcloud Talk

There are two ways to get connected, and meetergo picks the simplest one for you:

  • If you already sync a Nextcloud calendar, meetergo reuses that connection. Nothing else to set up.
  • If you don't, you connect Nextcloud Talk directly with your server URL, username, and an app password.

Option 1: Already syncing a Nextcloud calendar?

If you connected Nextcloud as a calendar, meetergo reuses those credentials for Talk. Nextcloud Talk shows as connected automatically. Just make sure the Talk app is installed on your Nextcloud, and you're ready to go.

Option 2: Connect Nextcloud Talk directly

If you don't sync a Nextcloud calendar, connect Talk on its own.

Step 1: Create an app password

  1. Log in to your Nextcloud.
  2. Go to Settings → Security → Devices & sessions.
  3. Under Create new app password, enter a name (e.g. "meetergo") and create it.
  4. Copy the generated app password.

Step 2: Connect in meetergo

  1. In meetergo, go to Integrations & Apps.
  2. Find Nextcloud Talk and click on it.
  3. Enter your server URL (e.g. https://cloud.example.com), your username, and the app password.
  4. Click Connect.

meetergo validates the credentials and confirms the Talk app is reachable. Once connected, you'll see a green "Connected" status.

Using Nextcloud Talk in your meeting types

  1. Go to Meeting Types and open the meeting type you want to configure.
  2. In the Venue section, select Nextcloud Talk.
  3. Save your changes.

When someone books this meeting type, meetergo creates a Nextcloud Talk room and adds the guest link to the confirmation. Attendees can join straight from the link in their browser, no Nextcloud account required.

Requirements

  • A Nextcloud server with the Talk app installed.
  • A user account on that server, with an app password.

FAQ

Do attendees need a Nextcloud account?

No. The booking link is a public guest link. Attendees join in the browser without an account.

I connected my Nextcloud calendar, but Talk shows as not connected.

Make sure the Talk app is installed on your Nextcloud, and that your calendar connection isn't flagged for reconnection. Reconnect your Nextcloud calendar if needed, then check again.

Is the connection per user or per company?

Per user. Each team member connects their own Nextcloud, or reuses their own Nextcloud calendar connection.

Does this work with openDesk?

openDesk uses Jitsi for video, not Nextcloud Talk (it bundles Nextcloud for file storage only). For openDesk, choose the Jitsi venue instead.
