Connecting OpenTalk

Create OpenTalk video rooms for your bookings, also works with SovereignDesk

Updated on June 21, 2026

OpenTalk is a sovereign, GDPR-compliant video conferencing solution made in Germany. With meetergo you can use OpenTalk as a meeting location, so every booking gets its own OpenTalk room and a guest invite link. This also covers SovereignDesk, which uses OpenTalk for video.

What you'll need

OpenTalk is controlled through an API (the "controller") that is protected by a Keycloak login. Before you start, gather these details from your OpenTalk administrator or hosting provider:

  • Controller URL: the API address (e.g. https://controller.example.com)
  • Web URL: where guests join meetings (e.g. https://meet.example.com)
  • Keycloak token URL: the full token endpoint (e.g. https://accounts.example.com/auth/realms/<realm>/protocol/openid-connect/token)
  • Client ID: the login client used for the API
  • Client secret: only if your client is confidential (otherwise leave it blank)
  • Service user: a dedicated OpenTalk user (email) and password used to create rooms

Connecting in meetergo

  1. In meetergo, go to Integrations & Apps.
  2. Find OpenTalk and click on it.
  3. Fill in the fields listed above and click Connect.

meetergo signs in to Keycloak with the service user and checks that the controller responds. Once connected, you'll see a green "Connected" status.

Using OpenTalk in your meeting types

  1. Go to Meeting Types and open the meeting type you want to configure.
  2. In the Venue section, select OpenTalk.
  3. Save your changes.

When someone books this meeting type, meetergo creates an OpenTalk room and a guest invite, and adds the guest link to the confirmation. Attendees join straight from the link in their browser, no OpenTalk account required.

SovereignDesk

SovereignDesk uses OpenTalk for its video conferencing. Connect it exactly as described above, using the OpenTalk details from your SovereignDesk environment. There is no separate SovereignDesk setup.

FAQ

Where do I find the controller URL and token URL?

These come from your OpenTalk (or SovereignDesk) administrator or hosting provider. They depend on how your instance is deployed, so meetergo can't guess them for you.

Do attendees need an OpenTalk account?

No. Each booking gets a guest invite link that attendees open in the browser.

Is the connection per user or per company?

Per user. Each team member connects with their own credentials, or with a shared service user.

Is OpenTalk the same as Nextcloud Talk?

No, they are different products. If your server is Nextcloud, use the Nextcloud Talk venue. For OpenTalk or SovereignDesk, use this one.
