Build a campaign sequence

The steps a LinkedIn campaign can run, how branches and waits work, and how to write messages and voice notes.

Updated on October 3, 2026

The Sequence tab of a campaign shows its steps as a flow, starting at Campaign started. Each lead walks through it on its own.

Add, change and delete steps

  • Click + on a line or at the end of a branch, then pick a step under Insert step or Add action.
  • Click a step to open it in the side panel. Changes save automatically.
  • Click Delete step in the side panel to remove it.

Steps

Actions

  • View profile: visits the lead's profile. The lead sees that you looked.
  • Like post: reacts to the lead's newest own post. Choose the Reaction (Like, Celebrate, Support, Love, Insightful or Funny) and how old the post may be under Newest post at most (1 to 90 days). Skipped when there is no post that recent.
  • Send connection request: sends a request, with an optional Note. Then the sequence splits into Accepted and Not accepted.
  • Send message: writes to the lead as text, as a voice note or both. Only connections get messages. For anyone else the step is skipped and the lead moves on.

Conditions

  • If connected: checks on LinkedIn whether you are already connected and splits the sequence into Connected and Not connected.

End

  • End sequence: nothing more happens for this lead. A branch without more steps ends too.

Wait before a step

Every step has Wait before this step, in minutes, hours or days, up to 30 days. The wait counts from when the step before finished. A request counts as finished when it is accepted.

Sends happen only in the sender's working hours and within its limits. A step can therefore go out later than its wait. See LinkedIn limits, warm-up and account safety.

Accepted and not accepted

In a Send connection request step, set Wait for acceptance (1 to 21 days).

  • Accepted: the lead continues on this branch, for example with a thank you message. Someone already connected counts as accepted.
  • Not accepted: after the wait, the request is withdrawn and the lead continues here. A declined request goes here too.

Write messages

  • Insert variables: First name, Last name, Company and Job title. They are filled from the lead's contact.
  • Notes on connection requests can be up to 300 characters. Free LinkedIn accounts send at most 5 notes a month, up to 200 characters. After that, requests go out without a note.

Voice notes

  1. In a Send message step, click Record voice note.
  2. Record and save it.

Every lead gets the same recording. It plays inline on LinkedIn. Click Remove to delete it.

Rules for a sequence

  • If connected and Send connection request are always the last step of their branch, because they split it.
  • A sequence holds up to 40 steps and branches up to 6 levels deep.
