Collecting E-Signatures on Forms
The Signature field lets you collect a hand-drawn electronic signature from anyone who fills out your routing form or meeting type booking form. It works with a mouse on desktop and with a finger or stylus on touch devices.
Common use cases include:
- Consent forms before a discovery call
- NDAs or confidentiality agreements collected during lead qualification
- Terms of service acknowledgements as part of onboarding forms
- Photo or media release signatures
Adding a Signature Field to Your Form
Routing forms
- Open your routing form and go to the Builder tab.
- Click + Add field.
- Select Signature from the field type list.
- Enter a label — for example: "Please sign below to confirm you have read and agreed to our terms."
- Toggle Required if the signature must be provided before the form can be submitted.
- Click Save.
Meeting type booking forms
- Go to your Meeting Type settings.
- Select Invitee Questions.
- Click Add field and choose Signature.
- Fill in the label and set required/optional.
- Save the meeting type.
How It Works for the Visitor
When a visitor reaches the signature field:
- A blank canvas is displayed with a prompt to sign.
- They draw their signature using a finger (mobile), stylus, or mouse.
- If they make a mistake, they can clear the canvas and sign again.
- On submission, the signature is saved as an image (PNG) and attached to the form response.
Signatures are stored as base64-encoded PNG images. They appear alongside all other form field responses in the submission details view.
Viewing Submitted Signatures
After a form is submitted, the signature image is visible in the submission record:
- Go to Routing Forms and open the relevant form.
- Click on a submission to view all responses.
- The signature field shows the drawn image inline.
For meeting type bookings, signatures appear in the booking details alongside all other invitee answers.
Tips for Signature Fields
- Add context in the label — clearly state what the signer is agreeing to. You can use Markdown formatting in the label for bold text, links to your terms page, or structured content.
- Place the signature field at the end — users should read all form content before signing. Use a page break to put the signature on the final page.
- Combine with a heading field — add a Heading structural element above the signature field to clearly label the signature section.
FAQ
Is an e-signature collected this way legally binding?
That depends on your jurisdiction and use case. In many countries (including under eIDAS in the EU and ESIGN in the US), a simple electronic signature like this is legally valid for many common documents. For high-stakes legal documents, consult a legal professional about whether an advanced or qualified electronic signature is required.
Can I download the signature as a file?
Signatures are stored as images within the submission record. You can right-click and save the image from the submission view, or export it via the meetergo API.
What happens if a visitor skips a required signature field?
The form cannot be submitted until the required signature field is filled in. The visitor will see an error prompting them to sign.
Does the signature field work on all devices?
Yes. The signature canvas supports touch (finger or stylus) on mobile and tablet devices, and mouse drawing on desktop.
