How to limit bookings per email address

Prevent the same person from booking multiple appointments using the email booking limit feature

Updated on December 9, 2025

The email booking limit feature allows you to restrict how often the same email address can book appointments with you. This is particularly useful for practices, consultancies, or services where you want to prevent repeat bookings within a specific timeframe.

When to use email booking limits

Common use cases include:

  • Healthcare practices: Limit patients to one initial consultation per year
  • Free consultations: Prevent the same person from booking multiple free sessions
  • Limited services: Control access to high-demand appointment types
  • Event registrations: Ensure fair access by limiting bookings per person

Setting up email booking limits

  1. Navigate to your Meeting Types
  2. Select the meeting type you want to configure and click "Edit"
  3. Go to "Advanced Settings"
  4. Enable "Email booking limit"
  5. Configure your preferred limit:
    • Enter the maximum number of bookings (e.g., 1)
    • Select the time period (Day, Week, Month, or Year)
  6. Save your changes

Understanding the impact

Important: The email booking limit affects ALL bookings from that email address for this meeting type, not just visible availability.

For example, if you set "1 booking per year":

  • Once someone books an appointment, they cannot book another appointment with this meeting type for the entire year
  • This applies even after their first appointment has taken place
  • Other potential attendees can still book normally

Common mistake: No available times shown

If your booking page shows no available times at all, check if you've accidentally set a very restrictive email booking limit.

Scenario: You want to limit each person to one booking, so you set "1 booking per year." However, if you (the host) or your test account has already made a booking, you might see no available times when testing the page.

Solution:

  • Test with a different email address that hasn't booked yet
  • Or temporarily increase the limit while testing

Alternative: Duplicate booking prevention

If you simply want to prevent the same person from booking the exact same time slot twice (rather than limiting total bookings), you don't need the email booking limit feature. meetergo automatically prevents double-bookings for the same time slot.

Troubleshooting

If attendees report they cannot see any available times:

  1. Check their email address in your Bookings to see if they've already booked
  2. Verify your email booking limit settings aren't too restrictive
  3. Use the Troubleshoot Tool to diagnose availability issues—look for the YEAR LIMIT, MONTH LIMIT, WEEK LIMIT, or DAY LIMIT codes

FAQ

Does this limit apply across all my meeting types?

No, email booking limits are configured per meeting type. Each meeting type can have its own limit settings.

What happens when the time period resets?

When the configured period ends (e.g., a new year begins for yearly limits), the attendee can book again. The limit resets automatically.

Can I see who has reached their booking limit?
